Never, Never Give Up

A week ago I woke up and knew I would be faced with the decision to help rescue or refuse to help a loved one in trouble. The drinking had been an issue for a long time. The consequences it placed on him before availed little to stop him from taking another drink. The drink is stronger then the will. If that were not so there would be millions of families spared grief and pain. There were times I saw this person fall to their knees and surrender. I heard this person speak the heavenly language. This man loves the Lord God. He knows him as his personal Savior. I saw him read the word with fervor. I saw a person that was ill. I saw a person God created for a purpose. I saw love in this man. He did not love himself. I never had to beat him up because he did a good job on himself. I also know the illness. It is an illness that lies to you. It is the only illness that tells you you do not have one. Denial is not a river in Egypt. Party is over, did not have fun, spoiled the evening, feel rotten the next day, said some miserable things, repent, swear it off, feel better. The next time comes, only one.drink. It is the first drink that gets you drunk. You forgot.

I am sharing this true story with you because for me it has been one of never, never give up on your prayer. If one individual can get a sense of hope, inspiration or encouragement then take what you need. It is by the Grace of God I am not dead today because of my drinking. I am grateful that I have many years of sobriety. In 'him' I give all the Glory. God answers prayer. He did not give up on me. If I believe his word, then he hears my prayer. He tells us he will never leave nor forsake us. Never give up on what God can and will do for you. If your safety is threatened, there are measures to take. You may have to take drastic measures for your own sanity. You may have to detach from the person, you may have to move, separate or divorce. The enemy would love to use the obstacle to take you from Jesus. God has his timing for everything. Do not loose hope in Christ for your situation or the person you pray for. If you knew a cancer patient and you pray they will get better and heal do you give up on your prayer? God knows what he is doing. Do not accept the devil's lies. I am sure people hated the repulsive things I did. I lost friends. I lost allot. People were still praying for me. You may deplore the ground the person walks on. It is not worth it. It takes your energy. Pretend you do not hate, until you get there. In doing so you will find a space of compassion in your heart for the ill person.

I heard the phone ring at 1:30 AM. I did not answer. I asked God to rock me back to sleep. When I woke up it was morning, 7:00 AM. A sense of doom swept over me. Oh my God I hated this pit in my stomach. It was all to familiar. My thoughts were moving as quickly as a hummingbird going to and fro for his nectar. I felt like I was going to fall down. Then, I would crawl to the bathroom, I thought. Oh my God. I managed the bathroom.

This may sound a bit like a drama and it was. I was the star and only God knew my pain. I was in trauma. No one was filming me. My little dog was consoling me. I chuckled in the midst of my 'insanity'. Dog, God spelled back wards. God is so cool. He was using my Benji to reach me. I breathed in and out. I got my coffee. I grabbed my Bible. I prayed for two hours. A personal relationship with Christ is the most wonderful gift anyone could have. If you do not have it, you may want to try it. It works. God will not fail you. Man is not perfect, nothing is guaranteed. There is only one way to inward peace and joy, It is in Jesus. His words are the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.

I had peace. I felt an inner strength and calm. I am so grateful I prayed before listening to the message. The enemy wanted me crazy. No big fat way. He can take his lies and get out of Dodge. I have my sword. The 'Name' above every name. It takes the devil down. He flees like a jack rabbit being hunted. I love it. Thank You God for the empowerment you give to me through Jesus your son.

+ + + A free gift. It is no wonder the older I get the more I want of him. He is the answer for everything. He is my refuge and strength. In him I am complete. His blood shed for me, for you is too much to comprehend. His suffering so you and I could be free, pains me. I understand 'the fear of God' better today. It would be a great fear if i did not have Him in me, with me, and to carry me, when I felt I could not walk. I am so grateful. I choose Jesus. It is a choice. I can not imagine life without his love. In my own skin I am a wimp, in fear, hopeless, helpless and restless. In Jesus I am on fire. I have a life of adventure, not defeat. I have victory. God says he can turn all things for good for those that love him. Philippians. He did not say some things, but ALL things. The phone message said. 'I have so and so at the Police Department'. He can be released to you. Please call Officer Soinso. God had another plan. I was not to pick him up on Sunday morning at 1:30 AM. God was watching my back. Thank You Lord.

I feel angry. I missed church. I am booked later to go a clients home and color, cut and style her hair. I do not do this on a Sunday. I was doing it as a favor and God new how much I needed the money when she called Saturday morning. My flesh does not want to go clean the snow from the car, get into the cold and go do hair on a Sunday especially when I have a have a friend MIA. God has his reasons. I do not need to go figure. I made the commitment, I need to follow through.God is blessing me. He knows what he is doing. I do not need to question him. I thank him and praise his name. I ask for a double dose of super natural energy.

I call the 'detox' centers. Not there. It is cute. They can not give out information on who is there or not. I guess one is to drive all over the county searching. I was told at three different detox centers, " I can not tell you if that person is here, I would run down the hall to give him this message but I do not need to do that." Do you see my drift here? God is everywhere. He is all or nothing. I know it is God taking me through the course of action. I get through to the dispatch at the Police station. I am asked to hold for ten minutes.dispatch is going to check this out for me.This woman is a Blessing, she did not need to go the extra mile. I have the favor of God. A child of God has his favor. He paves the road, he touches hearts and minds before we get there. Amazing God.The dispatch comes back, "He is in the County Jail'. My heart skips a beat or three. I ask," any injuries". 'No, picked up for a DUI.' Praise God. No one is hurt. I call my twin sis. I cry. I got to the INTERNET. In one hundred years I would not have landed here. I did not know how much this non profit organization reached out to help others. No charge.Praise the Lord. I call and there is a space open for a 90 day program. God does answer our prayers. Never give up on your loved ones or friends. I am thankful many prayed for me and continue to do so. God has opened a door. He answered my prayer. I know what I must do. I know that I know. When the jail is good and ready they will release this person today and I will get a phone call. There is no bail.

I go to my clients home. She is hard of hearing. I have known this beautiful woman for years. It takes allot of energy to do her hair. I have to literally shout. She will not wear a hearing aid. I get the phone call. I can go get my friend. I feel like raging into the phone. I do not. I stand on Gods word. My feelings will change. God's word does not change. My flesh wants to act out, I do not. Is this wisdom?(laugh). I am a born actress, I think. I have held this in so long it has become a way of life. My client pays me well. Thank You God.

I head out to the county jail. The roads are snow packed and icy. It is over 30 miles. I pray the whole way. Again I have an inner peace.Trust me this is not me. This is the Love of Christ in me. I am aware I am in the moment. My mind is not wandering all over the place. That is a flipping miracle. Wow. I play the song on my ipod over and over. The video is below. The song is beautiful.

I am not sharing this story with you to be self righteous. I am only made righteous by the blood of Jesus. I share it with permission because the love of God may touch you somewhere. Life can be brutal. Beyond every stumbling block or obstacle is an opportunity for you or I to do something others won't do because of fear or doubt. They are lies of the enemy. It would be easy for me to give up on this person. The few that knew of this struggle said I should give up. I think they thought I was crazy when I said 'NO God has wonderful plans for his life, this is part of his testimony'. Our stories are testimony's of Gods love for us. They are opportunities to share the good news of Salvation. God has a destiny for each one of us. He fits us into where he wants us. Some will stand on the shore line and not get into the boat. Others will get into the boat but not step out to the other side. Kind of like Peter. He saw Jesus. He was told he would be safe. He kept his eyes on Jesus. When he took his eyes from Jesus to the 'wind' coming in he went. You can not see wind. Peter was walking on the water. You have to hand it to Peter. The other disciples stayed where they were comfortable. Fear kept them in the boat. If I would have shut the doors I would not have grown as I have. Obstacles point us to the promiser's in God's word. God is for us,not against us.

Jesus never gave up on the woman at the well. She was despised. She had Faith in Jesus. He said 'go and sin no more'. He forgave her.She turned out to be a great witness for Christ. God even put her in his story, she is famous. She is in the greatest story ever told. There are times we feel we are are falling off of the edge. No, do not focus down. Christ can turn this huge storm into a miracle or blessing for one or millions. Look up. Keep your eyes up. Do not focus on the storm.

Paul speaks of opportunities. Paul never gave up. He was something. I am sure he had his moments, he was human. He so loved Jesus and had faith. Paul said, "a great door for opportunity opens and it was effective but there were many challenges and much opposition. Do not let door number two make you believe God never did open it because it is not easy once inside, do not walk away' (1Corintians 16:9) I think of how Christ used people of a 'low class stature' according to that of the world, and they accomplished great things for Christ. They had many tribulations but their testimonies turned out to be a great witness for Christ. We did not hear of too many famous, prosperous kings. Why is that? Is it because they already had it all and counted on earthly treasures and worldly lusts. They were doomed but the 'lower lives' knew true abundance and joy in Jesus. The enemy went after the ones that would be a witness for the Savior. The enemy tried to do what it took to take them down. They kept faith in Jesus. Most of those individuals are 'famous' in the Bible. They fought for Jesus. They committed their ways to him. Millions or billions have salvation because Christ used them in a mighty way. We know of these men and woman. One day we will see and meet them. How awesome is that? So never give up on what God is doing in your life. He knows your story, he wrote it. Trust in Jesus. Deny Jesus and you deny the Father God. You will not get into heaven. God is no respecter of people, Jew or Gentile. Keep your eyes wide open, We are nearing the end times. Look around. There are many that are from the enemy. Many will be deceived, they will believe the lies and teachings. Be careful. There is one Bible, one Old and One New Testament. There can not be one without the other. May Christ Jesus Bless and Keep you. His return, I believe is soon. How exciting to be captured up with him. Never give up on your friends or loved ones. There is hope until there is none. God wants no one to perish. Just maybe someone was praying for you.

Do not let stumbling blocks turn you away. Focus on what you have. You have breath, life, a will to live. Do not focus on limitations or the problem. Keep God in the equation, do not let the enemy trip you up. Speak, strength, favor, and opportunity into your situation. When you factor in God on the occasion you will learn to count it all joy.

I get to the jail. Here comes Mr. Humble pie. It is freezing, no coat. My, oh my. I share I do not want to speak because I may pull over and slap him silly. It was a long ride. Finally I asked, 'now what'? He wanted to be in an environment of 24/7 safety net. A Biblical program if at all possible. God is amazing. The odds of having a bed or spot in the 'Salvation Army' treatment are slim. They try not to turn any one away although most times there is a wait The criteria is simple. You need an ounce of willingness, you drink you are gone. You do not do the program you are gone. The next day I took my friend, David also my husband of 15 years to the Salvation Army. He will be in treatment 90 days. His life will change. My life will change. I am so thankful because I know God has big plans and will use his testimony to reach others. He redeems, restores, heals. Never give up on God. The enemy with his lies wants you to get mad and walk away from God. Keep your eyes focused on him. God hears. He knows what he is doing. In Joy + + +

As I was reading the old rose up and reminded me of my years, the years that you have seen the years that David has seen as the road is amiliar to those who suffer with this affliction.

I hit rock bottom 35 years ago, a sad story, a trail of desturction and pain and suffering for the many who loved me. I know it was through their prayers that I stepped free, it was through everyones prayers and God's will that I survived You know His love and you know His healing grace as I do. I stand in prayer with you over this time for David. May the Father touch him deeply this time and may he be healed.

Blessings

hello skye2day,

isn't it good to know that God doesn't give up on us. God is faithful and just, and if we'll confess our sin, he will forgive. God loved you and I, and all, too much to leave us in the wretched condition that he found us.

Skye2day, I pray that David comes through this like gold refined in the fire. You know the drinking is to dull His pain.... I say this not to make excuses but to have compassion. Life can be cruel sometimes and when you are not at your strongest it can take you on a detour. Continue to hold on to the Lord and remember the good times... He will bring you through this, In Him you will have the VICTORY!!!

How fitting that David is with the Salvation Army! This is truly spiritual warfare! I pray that the Lord strengthens him and he comes out as a strong warrior as David who slew Goliath! Skye2day keep looking up my sister! God has gifted you in many areas! He has so much more in store for the two of you! Bless you for your commitment, May the FRUIT of HIS SPIRIT continue to flourish in your life! May His favor & Peace rest upon you! Love & Blessings to You and David... Never give up!

David is a blessed man indeed! God never gives up either and for that I am eternally grateful. I pray you continue to find your strength in Him. What I learned from my experience was that substance abuse was not the only thing the enemy used. For me, it was other things and the Bishop I work with these days long ago saw the Joshua Spirit in me.

The one that says, "I made the decision." Fight it out. You've got a solid spirit, sister.

The one that also says "quitting is not an option." Giving up is never the option and your testimony is a true inspiration.

Unchained, You are a love. Thank You. David has changed. He has gained 18 lbs. Looks Great. He is at peace. He is in Joy. He laughs. He makes jokes. He is very grateful to be clean and sober. He is humble. He is not edgy or irritable. He helps others. He prays for others. He has a quiet spirit. He does not react but reaches out. His eyes are bright. I see the 'light' in him. He has made several 'god' friends. He is pumping iron. He is a new creature in Christ. He got a day pass. He will return later tonight. He will be gone for 70 or more days. Salvation Army is a God Send. They save Lives. They teach the word of God, they study the word. They share the Good News of Christ. They require respect. I guess 2 or 3 are booted out per week, They did not follow rules. The Salvation has 100 Beds. Most are 'street survivors' Sending a Big Hug. I pray you are Blessed 100 fold. I like your widget. Defeated. Please touch base with me. Your comment breaks my heart. No, do not give up. You have a reason to be here. I know how you feel. I have been there. I go there at times but today I do leave the neighborhood fast as it is a lie from the devil. Jesus loves you, he waits at the door. Just knock he will lift you up. He is sad when you want to give up. He is the way. Please email me. I have compassion for hurting hearts. I think because mine has been there many times..

May the Peace of God fill you at this moment. There is no condemnation in Christ. He died for us. There was no mistake you left the comment. God put you on this path.

Sky2day, my friend, God bless you and David. This ordeal will prove to strengthen you both. I have been sober for 23 years. My father was sober for 23 years. Strange I just put that together for the first time. We quit drinking the same year. His alcoholism caused the divorce between he and my mother, the separation between my father and I both in miles and emotionally (I did not see him for about 12 years), my down spiral and eventually I began drinking at the age of 15. I did not drink while pregnant but began again after my pregnancies. I finally quit for good when my second son was about 6 months old. I finally realized I was an alcoholic and I did not want to be one, like my father was. God was very good to me. I was able to quit easily and never put my family through pain due to alcohol. I simply drank every day, a pitcher of Margaritas with a girlfriend of mine who lived in the same apartment complex. But, I new I really wanted it! I was hooked. God can do anything if we give Him the chance to.

Thank you for sharing your story with us and I will keep you and David in prayer.

Sweet loving child of God....this has been the hardest trial for you.....as you said once, you and I are on the same path in more ways than one....many more ways than one and this hub has given me the faith not to give up....though our trials may be that no one but ourselves and God understand, it is so hard not to give up....when we feel this way, the armor of our Lord protects us in ways we are unable to believe, unless we do....May the Lord give you strength my friend in Christ....may He shower you with the love you have for Him.....

Hi Wealthmadehealthy Sweet one, you are such a blessing. Sometimes I wonder, Christ am I doing the plan you have for me? Then I get a comment as this. He is so awesome. Trials are very hard. One day I knew that I knew my TRUST in God was for everything. It went from the head to heart. I think as my faith increased he changed my heart. We are seed planters he is the heart changer. He will go before you and pave the way. He know our hurts. Our fears. Man will let us down. Banks, 401ks, retirement funds, savings, man, husbands pay check is not our dependance. God will get what we need to us. He is always on time. I just knew he keeps his word. He answers prayers. David is coming home a much better man. A man after Gods heart. He looks fantastic, Gained 22 lb much needed. His eyes sparkle. He has this calm I have known but it is deeper. God is going to use him in a mighty way. His testimony can help thousands. Keep writing because you are inspration and hope in trouble times. Christ uses you for his Glory. He is the Father. The father loves to give gifts and reward us too. You will get through and one day know you had to go through to get to where you are.

I love ya. E mail if you ever want to 'chat'. Hugs Thank You sweet friend.

He is guiding you and filling you with supernatural hope in a sure thing ... It will be so awesome to read what God is up to ... as He completes the work He began in David's life. I pray God's love and strength wash over both of you and that He delivers your dear one from the oppression that has overtaken him... God is greater than he that is in the world.

Greetings Unchained, Thank you for a Blessed comment. Inspiration. The Bishop is right. You my friend have the Holy Spirit moving in you, through you. He worked through you to touch me at a time I needed touching. God is so cool.

My love, your friend in Christ.

May the Father touch him deeply this time and may he be healed.

hello skye2day,

isn't it good to know that God doesn't give up on us.

Your hope and trust in God is revealed through the beautiful words written in this hub. You love BIG and you never give up! That's a testimony and example to all of us who claim the name of Jesus. David is a blessed man indeed! God never gives up either and for that I am eternally grateful. I pray you continue to find your strength in Him. I send love and hugs to you dear girl!

Sweet loving child of God....this has been the hardest trial for you.....as you said once, you and I are on the same path in more ways than one....many more ways than one and this hub has given me the faith not to give up....though our trials may be that no one but ourselves and God understand, it is so hard not to give up....when we feel this way, the armor of our Lord protects us in ways we are unable to believe, unless we do....May the Lord give you strength my friend in Christ....may He shower you with the love you have for Him.....

skye2day says:

Skye2day, Wonderful heartfelt testimony! As you so wonderfully stated: "The enemy went after the ones that would be a witness for the Savior. Deny Jesus and you deny the Father God."

Again wonderful! Yes, God never gives up on us! The JOY of the LORD is your strength! Thank you for sharing, Blessings!

I send love and hugs to you dear girl!

Is that you?

My love, your friend in Christ.

Sweet loving child of God....this has been the hardest trial for you.....as you said once, you and I are on the same path in more ways than one....many more ways than one and this hub has given me the faith not to give up....though our trials may be that no one but ourselves and God understand, it is so hard not to give up....when we feel this way, the armor of our Lord protects us in ways we are unable to believe, unless we do....May the Lord give you strength my friend in Christ....may He shower you with the love you have for Him.....
